"Its a big yard art piece. Its an antique store. Its a junk store! Its a park and playground. No, its an animal shelter isn't it? I thought it was a costume shop. Doesn't it have  something to do with The Wizard of OZ ?"                         Who's right?              They all are. More or less......              Established in 1977 at Deschutes Junction near Bend Oregon, The Funny Farm was originally called Buffet Flat. (It still is by many.) Owners Gene Carsey and Mike Craven opened a SECOND HAND store on US Hiway 97. Great location, busy hiway, one drawback. The cars were going sixty miles an hour. Our yard art started as a way to get people to stop and smell the bowling balls. (In our BOWLING BALL GARDEN).They might even buy something! Pretty soon we had some older junk around. We became ANTIQUES and Second Hand. Mike's appreciation for old fabrics and clothing led to a Vintage Clothing department. When people asked to rent instead of buy, the Costume Rental sprouted. Then the next door neighbors moved and couldn't keep their pet donkey and sheep. Would it be possible? We reluctantly said OK. Now we serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to around sixty spoiled, but friendly goats, llamas, sheep, pigs, chickens, cats, duck, dogs, donkey, turkey and who knows what next week?? All pets whose owners could no longer care for them.The key word here is friendly, because visitors to the park feed and pet the animals. Then the LOVE, ADMIRATION and plain old GREED come in.   And that's the end of that tale.
